Optimizing your website for tablet devices – Do you need to?
Since Apple launched the iPad in 2010 and introduced the tablet market, we have been advising our clients to get on board before your competitors do! We must admit 2010 was a hard year to sell tablet websites, we might have bought our iPads for release day (mentioning no names, one of our guys even camping out for his) but usage was still at its infancy and stats were hard to come by to back up our vision.
“Who’s going to buy a big iPhone to view my website” one client said, how we laugh now!
How things have change in 2012, it has become part of our standard offering to clients along with Desktop and Mobile websites. Clients realise the need for all 3 windows because even they view them on multiple devices now. Plus (and most importantly), we now have the stats to prove it.
To give an example, here are some of the stats we have collated from a range of our clients:
Women’s fashion retail
45% Percentage of mobile visitors in July 2012
Which breaks down to 55% iPhone, 25% iPad with android and other devices making up the rest.
Electronic Retail
27% Percentage of mobile visitors in July 2012
Which breaks down to 45% iPhone, 35% iPad with android and other devices making up the rest.
Information based websites
31% Percentage of mobile visitors in July 2012
Which breaks down to 44% iPhone, 36% iPad with android and other devices making up the rest.
Not convinced yet (really?!?)….
Okay last chance, tonight’s homework is to look up your competitors on the tablet and enjoy the experience
(we’ll wait for your call in the morning).
